Every organisation creates a vision or mission to define its focus and inspire staff towards achieving business goals.

IHMRI is no different. Our vision and purpose provide high-level goals for us to attain.

Organisational values provide guidance on how we achieve success, particularly how we behave and treat other people.

IHMRI has a set of values that were developed in 2017 as part of our Strategic Plan, which are set out below.

New values

The Executive Management Team feels the time is right to update our values to ensure they reflect our organisation today and our future direction. We also want to simplify our values so that they are clear, memorable and easy to understand. We want them to be part of our everyday working life at IHMRI.

The new values emerged following a workshop led by Chief Operating Officer Kara Lamond at IHMRI’s 2019 Annual Retreat, attended by 40 researchers and operations staff.

Working in small groups, researchers and staff were asked to discuss what values they would like to see represented in IHMRI. From this feedback, the most mentioned values were grouped into three categories.




We provide a respectful culture that is open, equal, inclusive and celebrates diversity.

We nurture collaboration in collective spaces, exchange knowledge and engage with our stakeholders.

Where to next?

At the moment there are no plans to change our vision and purpose. 

To ensure all researchers and staff are aware of our new organisational values — share, support and inspire — we will develop a range of activities, tools and resources.

We also hope to reward and recognise people who demonstrate these values.
