The Illawarra Health and Medical Research Institute (IHMRI) is a joint collaboration between the University of Wollongong and the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District to foster, develop and grow health and medical research in the region.  IHMRI is constituted as a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee under the Corporations Act 2001 (Commonwealth).

Note: Operations positions within IHMRI will be filled under employment arrangements with the University of Wollongong, the incumbent will be seconded to work in the role within IHMRI Limited and will be accountable to the IHMRI Chief Executive Officer and Board.  The secondment will be governed by an individual secondment agreement signed between the incumbent, the UOW and IHMRI Ltd.

Technical Officer

  • Fixed term, full-time appointment (three years)
  • The position will be a hands-on role involving day-to-day laboratory support activities, supporting IHMRI researchers and research students.
  • We are looking for a positive and enthusiastic individual with a demonstrated understanding of principles and special requirements involved in working in a PC2 laboratory.

To be success in this role you will:

  • Demonstrated experience working in a PC2 laboratory and knowledge of associated Work Health and Safety (WHS) requirements.
  • Ability to carry out routine laboratory activities including media and buffer preparation, ordering and receiving lab consumables, washing glassware, gas and cryogen supply and routine equipment maintenance.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in MSOffice suite and ability to carry out administrative tasks such as writing laboratory procedures and record keeping.
  • Ability to learn new tasks quickly.



Research Development Coordinator

  • Fixed term, full-time appointment (three years)
  • Use your health and medical research experience to support and promote health and medical research excellence 

To be success in this role you will possess: 

  • A working knowledge of medical and clinical research, particularly research translation
  • Strong project management skills and experience in the planning and facilitation of group workshops
  • Exceptional stakeholder relationship management skills including strong influencing and negotiating skills
  • Knowledge/experience in the commercialisation of health and medical research
  • Experience in analysis of data for ‘key performance indicator’ reporting
