A healthier Illawarra community
The Illawarra Health and Medical Research Institute (IHMRI) is a not-for-profit charity that supports health and medical researchers in the Illawarra-Shoalhaven region of New South Wales, Australia.
We bring scientists, doctors and health professionals together to solve our greatest health challenges through research.
Together we are striving to find better ways to prevent and treat disease and illness such as cancer, diabetes, mental illness and dementia.
IHMRI is based in Wollongong, just south of Sydney. Once known for steel production and coal mining, our region is now a diverse and innovative lifestyle destination, with a growing reputation in technology and medical research.
IHMRI was established in 2008 by the University of Wollongong and the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District to promote and grow world-class health and medical research in our region.
Governance and structure
IHMRI is governed by a board of directors, with an executive management team, a scientific advisory committee and three research themes. Read our constitution and view an organisational chart.
